Mardi Himal Trek 6 Days [2026]

The 6-Day Mardi Himal Ridge Trek is an off-the-beaten-path alternative to the busier trails of Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp. Ascending sharp ridgelines directly below the sacred summit of Mount Machhapuchhre (Fishtail, 6,993 m), the route climbs out of moss-draped rhododendron forests into open alpine terrain. Trekking along the crest of Badal Danda (Cloud Ridge), you remain high above the valley fog with uninterrupted views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli before making the pre-dawn push to Mardi Himal Base Camp at 4,500 meters.

Itinerary

Follow our carefully planned Mardi Himal Trek 6 Days [2026] itinerary, designed with proper acclimatization and comfortable trekking days throughout the journey.

Depart Lakeside Pokhara by private vehicle along the Baglung Highway to the trailhead at Kande (1,770 m). Begin walking up stone steps through terraced fields to Australian Camp (2,060 m) for sweeping views of the Annapurna range. Continue past Pothana to register permits, then branch off the crowded trekking route into quiet, moss-covered oak and rhododendron cloud forests. Follow the secluded forest spine steadily upward to arrive at the quiet teahouse outpost of Forest Camp (Kokar).

Day 1
Overnight: Day 1
Note:

Climb steadily through ancient rhododendron, birch, and hemlock forests draped in hanging ferns and lichens. The trail follows the forested spine of the Mardi ridge with gradual steep sections. As you gain elevation, the canopy thins, offering dramatic glimpses of the sheer southwest face of Mount Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) looming directly ahead. Arrive at Low Camp in the early afternoon, where teahouse courtyards look out over the deep Mardi Khola canyon below.

Day 2
Overnight: Day 2
Note:

Break through the tree line onto the open, grassy alpine spine of Badal Danda (3,210 m). Walking along this narrow ridge crest, you stand literally above the clouds, with Annapurna South (7,219 m) and Hiunchuli dominating the western horizon and Machhapuchhre rising directly overhead. Follow the well-defined ridge path across alpine scrub and scree slopes, navigating wind-swept switchbacks to reach the mountain lodges at High Camp.

Day 3
Overnight: Day 3
Note:

Rise at 4:00 AM under headlamps to tackle the high ridge ascent in crisp alpine air. Follow the narrow crest past the Lower and Upper Viewpoints (4,200 m) as the morning sun paints the towering snow walls of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Tent Peak in deep shades of gold. Push along the rocky ridge to the base camp sanctuary marker at 4,500 meters, standing beneath the sheer ice flutings of Machhapuchhre. After photos, descend to High Camp for breakfast, pack up, and return down the ridge to sleep in the thicker air of Low Camp.

Day 4
Overnight: Day 4
Note:

Leave the main ridge trail to make a steep descent down the forested eastern slopes into the pristine Mardi Khola valley. Walk beneath shady maple, walnut, and bamboo canopies, passing secluded waterfalls and terraced agricultural plots. Arrive in the traditional Gurung settlement of Sidhing, where you stay in a local lodge to enjoy authentic Himalayan hospitality, local dal bhat, and organic mountain tea away from commercial tourist crowds.

Day 5
Overnight: Day 5
Note:

Follow the dirt tracks and stone paths along the banks of the rushing Mardi river, passing small farming hamlets and suspension bridges to reach the roadhead at Lumre. Meet your private 4WD vehicle for the scenic drive past Hemja and Yamdi back to your hotel in Lakeside Pokhara, celebrating the completion of the 6-day Mardi Himal expedition.

Day 6
Overnight: Day 6
Note:
