The 6-Day Panch Pokhari Trek journeys to a sacred high-altitude sanctuary at the base of the Jugal Himal in Sindhupalchok district. Perched at 4,100 meters within Langtang National Park, Panch Pokhari is a revered pilgrimage site consisting of five pristine glacial tarns sacred to both Hindu and Buddhist devotees. Beginning from the traditional Tamang gateway of Bhotang, the trail climbs steeply through moss-draped rhododendron and pine cloud forests, past the high ridge pasture of Nosyampati (3,700 m). From the prayer-flag viewpoint above the lakes, you will witness sunrise illuminating Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal, Phurbi Chyachu, and the Rolwaling range without mainstream commercial tourist crowds.
Requires Langtang National Park Entry Permit, Sindhupalchok Rural Municipality Entry Registration, and TIMS Card. Maximum elevation reaches 4,100 m at the sacred lakes (4,300 m at the sunrise viewpoint ridge). Accommodations are community teahouses and basic seasonal pilgrimage lodges. The trail involves steady, continuous uphill stone steps and ridgelines.
Depart Kathmandu early morning by private 4WD vehicle, passing the ancient Newar town of Sankhu and climbing over the valley rim to Melamchi Bazaar. Follow the scenic dirt mountain road tracing the rushing Indrawati River and Melamchi Khola, ascending past terraced hillsides and waterfalls to check into your local lodge in the Tamang heritage village of Bhotang.
Climb out of Bhotang along stone staircases through terraced agricultural fields and cedar groves to Deurali and Tupi Danda (2,200 m). Enter the dense, mossy cloud forest of Langtang National Park, ascending through ancient oak, bamboo, and blooming rhododendrons. Emerge above the tree line onto the open, windswept ridge at Nosyampati (3,700 m) to settle into your rustic mountain lodge.
A steady alpine climb following the rocky ridge trail past stone stupas and prayer flags. Cross Laurebina pass with panoramic views extending across deep valleys. Drop into the sacred high-altitude basin to arrive at the shores of Panch Pokhari (4,100 m). Settle into your lodge beside the five holy lakes and visit the lakeside Shiva and Buddhist shrines.
Rise before dawn for a 45-minute climb to the summit viewpoint ridge (4,300 m) above the lakes. Watch the morning sun ignite Dorje Lakpa (6,966 m), Phurbi Chyachu, Jugal Himal, and the distant Langtang and Rolwaling peaks reflected in the five lakes below. Descend for breakfast, then retrace your steps along the scenic ridge past Nosyampati to rest in the thicker air of Tupi Danda.
Descend the stone staircase path through shaded bamboo and rhododendron forests back into Bhotang village. Meet your private 4WD vehicle for the scenic return drive along the mountain road via Melamchi Bazaar and Sankhu, arriving back at your hotel in Kathmandu for hot showers and an evening of rest.
A contingency buffer day in Kathmandu for relaxation, exploring cultural UNESCO World Heritage sites, and souvenir shopping in Thamel before transferring to Tribhuvan International Airport for your international flight.
